Biofeedback is a procedure that teaches you how to control automatic bodily functions with your mind, such as heart rate or muscle tension. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for headaches, chronic pain, anxiety, and stress.
Sensors are placed on the body to monitor automatic functions, such as heart rate. There is no pain associated with the sensor, which provides immediate feedback to patients about their heart rate. Patients then practice meditation or deep breathing exercises to decrease heart rate, which in turn results in a decrease of psychological and medical symptoms.
